Chapter 37 Aaron picked up his phone, feeling as if a thorn had pricked his heart. "Well, you'll be disappointed then. I promise you, I will finish this candlelight dinner with you tonight." With that, he answered the call.
On the other end, it wasn't Cynthia Lynwood-it was Matthew.
"Mr. Vance, there's trouble! Cynthia's kidney function has suddenly declined. Her body can't efficiently eliminate waste and fluids, and she needs immediate surgery. But she's refusing. You need to cand persuade her!" Aaron's eyes narrowed. "I understand. I'll be there right away." He quickly put down the phone. "Cynthia's life is in danger. We can't take risks with a human life!" A faint smile appeared on Serena's lips, her eyes filled with a teasing glint, as if the words "I knew this would happen" were written across her face.
Aaron hesitated for a moment, gritting his teeth before finally turning to leave. Cynthia Lynwood couldn't die.
If she died...

She didn't leave, though.
This restaurant charged a small fortune per head.
She'd have to be out of her mind to just walk away.
Serena leisurely finished the dinner the waiter brought her. Only after she wiped her lips did she prepare to leave.
However, as she stood, she heard a mocking laugh from behind. "Well, if it isn't Serena! Weren't you supposed to be in Northspire? Back so soon with your tail between your legs? I thought this tyou'd have the guts to stay away longer, but apparently not." Serena looked up.
It was a young woman in her early twenties, dressed in designer clothes, clearly from a well-off family.
Though not particularly pretty, she had a striking figure.
Serena recognized her.
Cynthia Lynwood's good friend.
Maggie Mitchell.
The fact that Cynthia Lynwood was Aaron's first love that was courtesy of Maggie's loose tongue.

Later...
Well, she was proven wrong.
Serena had no fondness for Maggie. She picked up her bag, intending to leave, but Maggie blocked her path. "What? Upset because I hit the nail on the head? My harsh words haven't even started yet." Maggie sneered, giving Serena a once-over. "Honestly, you've got no shame. Cynthia's back, and if you had any sense, you'd leave voluntarily." Serena looked at Maggie calmly. "Why should I leave?" "Because you're the other woman," Maggie said, her voice loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear.
They were all part of the ssocial circle, so they recognized Serena, and the whispers began. "So... Serena really is the other woman?" "I've said it all along. She's the other woman. Why else would she be so pathetic?" "Disgusting, taking advantage of someone else's girlfriend being sick to swoop in..."
Hearing the murmurs, Maggie grew even more smug. She leaned closer I to Serena, lowering Xe Voice. If i Serena, were you, I'd be too ashamed to show my face. I'd find somewhere to jump off a building."
Serena raised her hand, pressing it against Maggie's approaching face, and said, word by word. The one said, who should jump is Cynthia Lynwood, the real other woman, and you, the rumor-monger." Maggie, her vision blocked by Serena's hand, struggled to breathe.
"How is that a rumor? You are the other woman!" "Alright then, letask you this: When did Cynthia Lynwood and Aaron start dating?" Maggie fell silent.
"If they were together four years ago, then yes, I would be the other woman. But I didn't know Aaron had e argirlfriend overseas, so I'm just as much a victim here. The real culprit is Aaron. You're so righteous-do you dare confront Aaron about this?"
