“She has the guts?” Liam snorted when he heard Izzy's words. “Forcing someone into marriage. She must be
desperate to
save her son.”
Izzy sat quietly, observing Liam's reflection in the sedan window. The lights of late-night San Francisco blurred as
the car cruised through the dim streets, casting a muted glow inside. Her gaze shifted toward him, her
expression tightening,
“Save her son?” Izzy repeated, her brow furrowing in confusion. “What exactly do you mean by that?” Did Calen
need saving?
Liam raised a brow, his fingers idly tapping the leather armrest. He gave a nonchalant shrug, “Rumors. Whispers
around the Weiss family-you know how it is. Cecil's probably scrambling now that Renard’s illegitimate kids have
surfaced It’s not just about Calen anymore. His position in the company-hell, even his claim to the inheritance-is
at risk.”
Izzy crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. “And how do you know all this?” She worked in the sbuilding but
even her information had been limited. Yet, Liam seemed certain about the things that he said just now.
“Information comes to me,” Liam said. “I keep an ear to the ground. It's the only way to stay ahead”
She studied him for a moment, contemplating his words. Then, with a quiet sigh, she leaned back into her seat.
“So, what chaos was that earlier at Weiss Corporation? Was it you?”
Liam tilted his head. “Chaos? You think I'm behind that?” He leaned closer. “Did you really think your husband is
that capable?”
“That wasn’t a compliment and...” Izzy's lips pressed into a thin line. “You can’t fool me. | know you have your
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtfingers in a lot of pies. It wouldn't surpriseif you were somehow involved.”
He chuckled softly. “Maybe | just have good timing. But no, | didn’t stir that particular pot.” He paused, giving her
a knowing glance. “But you're right about Cecil. With her family’s reputation on shaky ground, she’s desperate to
secure Calen’s future. And now you're a key part of her plan.”
Izzy clenched her jaw. The idea that Cecil was scheming to push her into a marriage with Calen made her
stomach turn. “I didn’t expect her to stoop this low,” she muttered. “She always pretended to be so... composed.
But now | see it-she’s willing to destroy anything in her way to keep control.”
“People reveal their true colors when they're cornered,” Liam said. “And from what | can tell, Cecil's cornered on
all sides.” Izzy stared out the window, the city lights blurring once more. She doesn’t know the exact situation
inside the Weiss Family but it seems that Liam was right. Cecil must be getting desperate.
“But we shouldn't think about that,” Liam said, leaning closer and resting his head on Izzy's shoulder.
Izzy tensed slightly, turning her head to look at him. His eyes were already closed as if he was trying to sleep. He
looked.... peaceful. His usual smirk was gone, replaced by a calm expression that made her chest tighten
unexpectedly.
“You look tired,” she said quietly.
Liam shifted slightly, getting more comfortable. “I am. Missed all my meetings today.”
Izzy frowned. “You missed your meetings? | didn’t ask you to cwithto the hospital.”
His lips twitched into a faint smile, though his eyes remained closed. “How could | let my woman face those
wolves alone?”

Izzy let out a soft chuckle at that. “Your woman, huh?”
“Isn't that what you are now?” Liam muttered, still resting against her.
She shook her head, amused but strangely touched by his words. After a moment, she sighed softly and leaned
her head on his. The warmth of his presence, the steady rise and fall of his breathing-it was oddly comforting
“I'm tired too,” she admitted quietly, her eyes closing.
Liam mumbled something in response, his breath soft against her neck. “I know,” he said, barely audible but
clear enough for her to catch.
They stayed like that, the silence of the car broken only by the quiet hum of the engine. Izzy could feel the
tension easing from her body as exhaustion pulled at her. She didn’t know when she'd last felt this relaxed.
Maybe it was the quiet support beside her. Maybe it was the fact that, for once, she wasn’t carrying everything
on her own.
Monica blinked groggily as her eyes adjusted to the sterile white walls of the hospital room. The ceiling lights
above felt too bright, making her squint. She tried to move, but a dull ache in her body stopped her.
“You're awake,” Amalia said softly, stepping closer. She picked up a glass of water from the nearby table and
handed it to Monica.
Monica accepted it, taking a small sip before lowering the glass. “How... how long have | been here?”
“Most of the night,” Amalia replied as she adjusted the blanket around Monica. “You gave us all a scare. Calen
and Cecil were here earlier. They stayed almost all night but left to get srest.”
Monica's mind was foggy, but fragments of the previous day began to resurface. She could still see Izzy's face,
that brief flash of shock right before she fell. The memory sent a little bit of satisfaction through her.
“They know Izzy was responsible for what happened,” Amalia added.
Monica exhaled slowly, relief washing over her. Cecil had kept her word. “Good,” she muttered, closing her eyes
for a moment. She leaned her head back against the pillow, letting the tension drain from her body.
Amalia hovered nearby, watching her closely. “How are you feeling? Should I call the doctor?”
“I'm fine,” Monica said quietly, though the words felt hollow. Her hand instinctively moved to her stomach. The
emptiness there was undeniable, and a wave of nausea rolled over her. She knew the truth. Her child was gone.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIt had been her decision, and she had understood the consequences, but the reality hit harder than she had
anticipated.
She wondered what Calen had felt when he found out. Did he care? Or was this just another problem solved in
his eyes? He must have been angry, right? He thought she went to Nevada, but instead, she went to see his
mother. She swallowed. Does he hate her now for involving Izzy in all this mess?
“Monica?” Amalia’s concerned gaze broke her train of thought.
“I'm okay,” Monica replied, forcing herself to meet her mother’s eyes. “I just need a moment.”
“Well, we can’t really have that now. Izzy hurt you and that child. I—"
“Mom- please?”
Amalia hesitated, but eventually nodded. “Fine. Letknow if you need anything. I'll be outside.”

Monica watched her leave the room, then let out a shaky breath. Her hand lingered on her stomach for a
moment longer before she finally let it fall to her side. The hollowness remained, gnawing at her.
