Chapter 39 A Good Deed
The attending doctor of the man who had collapsed soon informed Corynn that the patient had woken up.
Thanks to the timely medication and the swift medical attention, the man’s life wasn’t in any immediate
danger.
In addition, he had no other bodily injuries, so it was quickly confirmed that he had collapsed due to a sudden
heart attack.
Sofia, who had learned about what happened, felt relieved, but it was quickly overshadowed by a wave of guilt. If
she hadn't called Corynn over, Corynn wouldn't have had to deal with this incident in the first place.
“I'm sorry... This is all my fault...” Sofia whimpered despondently.
Corynn, on the other hand, found it somewhat amusing. “Sofia, look on the bright side. If you didn’t call, |
wouldn't have been able to save that man’s life.”
Sofia looked up at Corynn, her eyes brimming with tears. Under Corynn’s comforting gaze, she felt reassured.
Perhaps she wasn’t as unlucky as Chase had made her out to be.
Ever since Sofia started dating Chase, Chase's family experienced a string of unfortunate events; first, his father
was arrested for gambling, then his mother was caught cheating, and finally, his grandmother broke her leg
while stealing vegetables...
Chase blamed all these mishaps on her, calling her a jinx.

At the time, she felt terribly sad, but Chase had said, “Look, you're such a jinx, but I still choose to be with you -
which goes to show just how much I love you, Sofia.”
His confession of love had the magical effect of banishing Sofia’s feelings of hurt.
“I treated him so well. How could he do this to me?” Sofia wept bitterly at the mention of Chase.
After hearing the full story, Corynn felt an uncontrollable rage burning inside her.
Fuck that son of a bitch! He had been manipulating Sofia since the beginning!
Corynn had only known Chase as the upperclassman who had started dating Sofia right after she graduated.
Who would've thought that he was such a scumbag?
Back then, the way Sofia described him had made him sound so wonderful, but it turned out that he was just
really good at hiding his true colors.
“You silly girl, you should've left him when he first started showing sred flags. You wouldn't have Corynn’s
voice trailed off as she reflected on her own situation. It only occurred to her then that she had no right to
lecture Sofia, as she had also been blinded by love once.
When she had first suggested marriage to Elliot, his silence should have told her everything

It meant there was no future for them.
Looking back, Corynn felt utterly foolish for clinging to Elliot for two years, only to suffer a severe emotional
blow in the end.
“Never again,” she swore to herself inwardly.
Just then, a nurse knocked on the door, saying that the man who had suffered a heart attack wanted to see her.
Corynn snapped out of her reverie and excused herself, reassuring Sofia that she'd only be gone for a minute.
Then, she followed the nurse to the man’s ward.
The man was already able to sit upright, and he had a little bit of color in his cheeks.
“You saved my life,” he said softly, his eyes kind as he looked at Corynn with sincere gratitude.
Corynn smiled faintly.
“I'm deeply indebted to you,” the man added.
“You collapsed right in front of my car; it was only right that | help you,” Corynn replied good-naturedly as she
pulled a chair over to sit beside him.
The man smiled. Few people had ever been so straightforward with him, and he found himself observing Corynn
with growing interest.

“You have a refreshing way of speaking, young lady. Still, | owe you my thanks. If there's anything you want,
please tell me,” he offered kindly.
But Corynn shook her head. “There’s no need for that. |
Hearing this, the man’s esteem for her rose even higher.
on't lack anything.”
After all, in this day and age, it was rare to find someone who did good deeds without expecting anything in
return. And here he was, bracing himself for the potentially exorbitant demand his savior would ask of him.
But contrary to his expectations, Corynn refused to ask for anything.
At that moment, a man dressed in black barged in, panting and out of breath.
Following a signal from the man Corynn had saved, the black-clad man bowed and handed Corynn a business
card with great respect.
“Miss, this is my boss's business card. Please accept it,” he said reverently.
Corynn glanced at the middle-aged man hesitantly.
He nodded at her. “Take it. You might need help someday. Whatever you need, just ask, and I'll do everything in
my power to fulfill it.”
