Carly looked hurt as she turned to Grace. "Mrs. Alvarez, look at Adam! I've loved him with all my heart and waited for him for three whole years. Anyone else would have softened by now, but he still treatslike this.
How could I not be heartbroken?" Carly was smart. For the past three years, she had stayed close to Grace, knowing how devoted Adam was to his mother.
Grace quickly reassured her. "Carly, don't be upset. This marriage has already been decided. Adam, you need to choose a date today and marry Carly!" Her tone left no room for argument.
Adam remained expressionless as he said, "I'm not getting married. If someone else wants to, be my guest." "You-" Grace's anger flared. "Adam, you've always been a good son. Why are you going againston this? Our families need this alliance!" "Mom, I'll do anything else you ask-but not this." "Adam, letask you again. Are you refusing to get married?"
