Chapter 49

Then again, Amara recalled this ordeal had inflicted defamatory insults on her. It had left her feeling off-kilter for

the past couple of days.

Even after Finnian had uncovered the truth, he had only given Liliana a light warning instead of any real

punishment, which didn't exactly make any pointed manifestation.

At the thought of it, Amara let out a wry smile.

"Got it," she said, her voice cool and detached. "Is there anything else?"

There was no reply on the other end. The faint hum of the phone line was the only sign that the call hadn't

ended.

"Well, if there's nothing more, I'm hanging up."

Not wanting to wait any longer, Amara ended the call without wavering.

Under the evening sky, Finnian leaned against his car, staring at his phone's dark screen with a slightly furrowed

brow. Why did she seem so distant?

He put the phone down, picked up the copy of the statement from his glove compartment and flipped it though,

feeling a restless urge to shred it to pieces. But instead, he stuffed it back in, climbed in the car and put the seat

belt on before driving off.

Amara spent the day at home, trying to unwind. By evening, she received a text from Elysia asking if she wanted

to grab dinner. Initially, she thought about declining because she had to head to the set later, but then she

changed her mind for remembering there was something important she needed to share with Elysia.

[Sure, just sendthe location,] she replied.

Half an hour later, they were sitting down at a cozy diner on Galleria Lane.

As Elysia dipped her fries into ketchup, Amara dropped a bombshell in her usual calm manner. "Ely, I'm

pregnant."

Elysia was left speechless, looking up in disbelief as she gazed at her.

Amara's smile was tinged with bitterness. "It happened that night. | forgot to take my pill."

Seeing her discomfort, Elysia set down her fork promptly and gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Hey,

it's not the end of the world. Don't stress. Do you know what you want to do?"

Elysia had suspected this might happen and felt a pang of guilt for not having encouraged Amara to get checked

sooner.

Amara shook her head. "I'm really not sure if | should keep it."

Did she love kids? Certainly, she'd always wanted one. However, her own upbringing hadn't been theé best, and

she worried about whether she could provide a stable

environment. The idea of raising a child alone was daunting.

Elysia quickly googled sadvice and then said, "You should decide within a couple of weeks. If you don't want

to keep it, it's better to act sooner for your health's sake. If you do decide to keep it," Elysia paused before

adding, "I'll be there to help you."

Amara managed a small smile. "I can afford to raise a kid, no problem."

Financially, she was secure enough to raise even ten kids, thanks to her earnings and the support from Finnian.

But emotionally, given the fact that she cfrom one-parent family, she feared her being a severe people-

pleaser, which had more tendency for herself to get wrongfully treated, might affect her parenting.

The thought of bringing a child into a single-parent household worried her.

"Enough of the heavy stuff, Ama. There's an auction this Friday. Want to cwith me?"

Elysia attempted to lift Amara's spirit. She had snagged a pair of tickets a few days ago, initially planning to go

with Dorian, but now she determined taking Amara.
